Yuuta didn't think of himself highly. Sure he thought that protecting himself was a priority in all situations, but not because he thought of himself as a person of importance. It was more of a raw instinct. He wasn't that big of a deal in the first place. The first Mizukage might have thought he was, but Yuuta knew better. He was one of the bunch, an elite bunch, but still a bunch. A bunch full of talented individuals, and he honestly didn't know how he'd ended up among them.

That's why, at this moment, he felt a sense of guilt for the intentions he had and the place he was in. The young anbu was leaning with his back against the wall, right next to the Mizukage's office door, hands crossed across his chest, one holding an envelope. He was to deliver a report on the Anbu's latest training sessions to the village's leader. A report which would normally be delivered by the captain of the Anbu, if they hadn't been busy out of their minds. Yuuta had ended up being the only one available, and was now in such a situation he would normally have avoided.

Delivering the report wasn't the actual problem though. What made him feel guilty was the fact that he actually wanted to do this. Since the death of the first Mizukage, Yuuta didn't have anything to do directly with the village's new leader. He'd heard a few things, among them the fact that it was now a woman leading them, and not even one from the main clans. He remembered wondering how she'd ended up up there instead of the Hozukis claiming the spot right after the death of the previous kage, how an outsider had bested the prideful clans of Kirigakure. He also remembered a strange desire to meet her, only to see what all the fuss was about. And now he had that chance.

And it made him nervous. He was never nervous in his life. He wasn't nervous when he was first summoned to this building and he was never nervous on missions. Yet he was nervous now, over such a trivial matter. The door next to him opened suddenly, a broad man coming out of the office, and closing it again on his way out. Yuuta straightened his back and clenched his free hand into a fist for a few seconds, before letting it relax again and knocking on the door lightly with it.

Winter is Coming

You never really noticed how incompetent those around you were until you had to lead them. Until they started relying on you for every single little thing that bothered them as if you were their parent. She had known being the Mizukage would entail this, but that didn't make it any less annoying everyday to see grown men and women come asking her for the most simple of things. She blamed the other villages for turning the role into some dictatorial position where you couldn't even scratch your nose without the kage's permission.

What she wanted was freedom. For her people to feel like they could do anything and everything around her and have enough common sense to know what would and wouldn't fly. To know that she may not dictate everything, but that whenever she does take action and gives orders that they are absolute and without refusal.

She was daydream, she realized as she heard another rap at her day. What was it now. "Come in," she ordered sternly, eyes still on her work at hand. For a while she didn't look at the person before she looked up and allowed her eyes to meet the intricately designed yellow mask of his. The ANBU was a bit of an exception to her annoyance. It was literally their job to report everything to the village leader after all. The mask was familiar, but she couldn't put name to face. Su was the one who had the eidetic memory. She wasn't even sure how it was that she was the main conscience, but her other half held all the skills that made a great shinobi.

"What is it?" she asked sternly, easing back into her chair.

He didn't hesitate a second longer, and opened the door the moment he heard the woman's reply. He walked in with his chin a bit higher than it was proper, and his feet light and confident. His show didn't really have an effect though, since the Kage was concentrated on her work, her eyes occupied with papers. Yuuta even had to wait for a moment or two before she turned her attention to him, and when she did, he tensed up unintentionally, his shoulders rising being evident to it. It didn't take him long to relax again, and question his well-being, since this behavior was completely out of the normal.

The woman had an air about her that reminded him of his father. He didn't like it on his old man, but on her he felt like he could grow to respect it. "Chiaki. Delivering a training report," he said in a clear voice, and stepped forward to place the folder on the kage's desc. He wanted to be as quick and precise as he could on his first meeting with the Kage, but because of it he was beginning to lose the chance to meet the person. Normally, he'd actually even avoid the second, but this one was different. This one was an asset in his eyes, and he couldn't just let an asset go.

So he stepped out of line, grabbing the first thing he found in his head. "So," he started, "Is it true that you're two people?" He kept his speech formal and his tone clear and steady, but the content of his question contradicted it. It was only after he'd finished asking that he realized that it might not have been the best choice he'd made that day. Then again, no point in taking it back.

Winter is Coming

A training report. De couldn't help the small crack of a smile that formed at her lips hearing that. A war was coming, she could see it, and usually felt like she was the only one taking measures to prevent it. And although ANBU training was one of the most routine of tasks upheld in the village—any village, or so she hoped at least—it was nice to finally have some news she actually wanted to hear.

"Thank you," she responded sternly taking the envelope at hand. She immediately assume he would have left after that so his remaining presence went mostly unnoticed by her. If he was nervous or giving off any other ticks of strange behavior, she hadn't noticed. Su was always the one good at such things. De had her head on her shoulders, but Su had the skills to back up the actions, even though all she wanted was just a good fight.

The ANBU spoke and she looked up with indifference. Although her expression read to be mostly stoic, she wasn't actually displeased to hear him talk out of turn like that. Her villagers were her life, and while she acted boldly and seemed cold, she would do literally anything for their sake. It was a privilege that was rather abused, as just last week a villager had actually slapped her across the face, but she felt it worth. Su said her kindness would run the village to the ground if she wasn't there to maintain respect.

"Technically. I am," she stated simply, not feeling to go into the technical details of it all with him. Albeit she had no problems explaining it to him if he asked. She just saw it as nature's way of screw with her, while Su saw it as nature's way of mixing the bad with the good to make the best. "Why? Does that bother you or scare you?" she asked, eyes focused on the training report at hand.

He wasn't actually interested in the question he'd asked. There were rumors -there always were rumors-, and maybe they'd gotten some sort of confirmation at some point, but Chiaki was always too indifferent to pay attention to rumors, so he'd always just catch the headline, in case it was needed in some sort of conversation out of work. This time though, he was glad he'd payed at least a bit of attention, for he was getting it back; in small potions. Better than nothing.

He stared back at the woman as she looked up to him, though it wouldn't have made a difference, due to the small eye slits of his mask. He didn't tense up this time. He figured he'd already come to terms that if he'd fucked up, he couldn't do anything to fix it now, so he just went with the flow. He hadn't really done that since he was a child. It felt refreshing. "Oh, no, nothing like that. Just curious about the new boss," he said, a bit more relaxed than his mask allowed him to be.

Speaking of the damn thing, why was he wearing it in the first place? This was the Mizukage. No one he couldn't trust. Hell, he exclusively worked for her anyway. The mask was off with a single toss of his hand. He almost felt guilty for taking it off, and then proceeded to use it as a fan. Maybe he was pushing it too far?

De looked at the shinobi with cold eyes. What was he after? She wished she had Su in this instance. Her counterpart may have been unrefined and barbaric, but she always seemed to get all the better qualities whenever she split them apart using the Fission technique. Even the people skills was hers. The only thing De was left with was the ambition. The ambition of unity, and the willingness to do anything to accomplish it.

But back to the matter at hand. This lad before her was proving to be a strange one. Especially when he surprised her by removing his mask. He should know military protocol enough to know that such an action was taboo. Her eyes met his sternly as she tried, and failed, to read his motives. "Asking me about my identity without a reason. Removing your mask even though you should know that's taboo," she said in musing, albeit seriously.

"You want something, and I recommend you start speaking, young man. I'm a servant to my people, whatever you need just ask," she felt inclined to remind him as she returned to her paperwork. She wasn't going to let some fidgeting boy keep her from her work. "What do you want. A loan, a raise, a prostitute to warm your bed at night, a meeting, new training equipment, a mission, a team. Just spit it out, boy."

Whenever he took of his mask, a minute long pause took place for him to gather himself back to being Yuuta. There wasn't much difference between him as an ANBU and him as a person. There only thing that really changed was the name. And yet he'd separated the two in his mind, and acted differently with that as an excuse. The pause didn't happen now though. The transition had been so easy that it scared him.

He was even more fazed with himself when the woman started listing off things he'd done wrong in the last few minutes. Improper acts he wouldn't allow himself to ever commit under other circumstances. And yet, it didn't show on his face. Only a small smile appeared timidly, and hid before it could be noticed by anyone. "Just," he started loudly, almost cutting her off, "a bit of your time. Tonight, tomorrow, whenever the Lady has any spare time." He requested it boldly, no hesitation in his voice.

It wasn't a preposterous request. It might have been out of place, and maybe a bit foolish, but it was essentially what Yuuta wanted. He wanted to talk, spar, both even. He just wanted to poke around until he was sure he wasn't investing his time in yet another disappointing cause.

De could feel her jaw clenching and un-clenching in anger. She was no longer annoyed, now it was anger. Did he really just ask her out on a date of all things. He broke protocol, he wasted her time, and his, all for the possibility of a date—which she knew he would no doubt deny if she actually called it such.

She had fought her way into the position of Mizukage, some days her finger tips still felt slick with the blood of people she had killed. And even now, in her position, she was still seen as nothing more than a possible male conquest. It was bullshit like this that drove her towards her ambition in the first place. To be identified as not a man or woman, but simply as a pillar of authority. A monarch.

"You came all this way to ask me on a date of all things, boy," she responded sternly. She really didn't have time for this. "If it's sex you want, just say so. It'll save us both the time and energy, boy," she added, eyes returning to her work. She would do anything to keep her villagers happy. She needed them more than they needed her; she knew that. It wouldn't be the first time she offered favors to keep a villager appeased. Of course such information never got out to the public though. It was something her counterpart, Su, always poked fun at. The fact that wild and almost bestial as she was, she actually still had her virginity.

"When you are alpha, no one is ever good enough for the sugar pot," she would say. De felt her anger flare further thinking of her counterparts.

The Monokuro clan wasn't exactly known for their dynamic women, and being raised in such an environment, Chiaki grew to be fascinated by the "strange" -for his standards- behaviors of such women. They shook the world around him, and anything that had the ability to do that had Yuuta going. Kirigakure was new, and full of salty men, which he now realized he had gotten sick of. Having someone to shake off the monotony they offered was literally the only interesting thing he could imagine happening in his life at the moment.

He hid a smile behind his mask, as he held halfway up in front of his face. The bluntness of the Mizukage was beyond what he'd expected, and he was more amused by it than he was worried about the actual misunderstanding. He could practically see himself playing with fire; it was biting him back, and he like it. "If I wanted someone in my bed, I'd get my family to find me a wife. They're very quick when it comes to matchmaking." True enough, he knew they'd already piled up a list of potential wives for him. The perks of being a member of a famous clan. "If you want to call it a date, I don't mind. But it won't involve anything of the sort. At least not from my part."

He let his hands find their way behind his back, taking his mask with them. His smile was revealed, neutral as ever, and he leaned on his right foot. "I know you're a busy woman, being the Kage and all. But a break doesn't hurt. Work does. Our previous Kage learnt that the hard way." His smile didn't falter, however harsh his words might have been for his previous leader. He never felt compassion for the man in the first place. He wasn't loyal to him, and not would he be to anyone, ever; not unless they were willing to step out of their way for him. There weren't many who would do that. Only a select few. And he was set on finding out whether this woman if front of him was one of them.
